At Kilberry Valley Primary School we encourage
a love of reading and being a lifelong learner.
We believe students should be given opportunities to speak, read and write about their interests, thoughts and ideas. The English program at our school is structured to ensure Reading and Viewing, Writing and Speaking and Listening outcomes from the Victorian Curriculum are met.
We aim to scaffold learning so that students become active listeners, articulate speakers, confident readers and amazing authors.
If you walk into any classroom in the school, you will see students engaged with literacy in a variety of ways, including the use of technology.
At Kilberry Valley Primary School, VCOP (Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation) overarches our teaching and learning and brings fun into writing - ask your child about Kung Fu Punctuation!
Through regular speaking and writing tasks (Big Talks and Big/Cold Writes), both students and teachers identify together the steps needed for continual challenge and improvement.
Premiers' Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) has been a long-held tradition at Kilberry Valley Primary School and in 2018, 522 students completed the challenge. PRC books are widely available in our wonderful library and teacher and students alike, add books to their reading list over the 8 months of the challenge.
Students who read 100 books are awarded a special certificate at the conclusion of the challenge.
